We came home from our camping trip the first weekend of June and within a couple hours we had a little girl with a bad owie! Brylee's hand was accidentally hit with the patio door by her twin brother. We iced her hand, gave her ibuprofen and kept on eye on it, but decided the next morning we should get it an x-ray. The bone going up to her thumb was indeed fractured but the pediatrician and orthopedic doctor both agreed we could stick with the soft cast (a removable ace wrap).
Very happy to avoid a hard cast!
Brylee was such a trooper and rarely complained! The follow-up x-ray 10 days later showed the bone was quickly healing and we only needed to immobilize the hand for another week. Just in time for camping trip #2 :)
